Its Been Rough

Tylers behaviors over the past 3 wks have been really bad.  He is not hitting ME, but he is screaming at me and calling me names.  He IS hitting his therapists, kicking his therapists and having full on meltdowns. EVERY session.  EVERY evening.  And the issue always starts from the moment when he gets home.

Friday I had a senior therapist in here for an interview for his weekend program. She has a PHD in psychology, evaluates and diagnoses, and develops ABA plans for direct care people.  She talked to me about Tyler for about an hour.  Then Tyler came home and she observed him for 20 minutes.  I have described Tylers behavior in general as very controlling and bossy.  And he portrayed that during the 20 minutes through snack time with screaming and name calling towards me too.  He almost hit the therapist.

The therapist thinks Tyler is portraying significant signs of ODD (oppositional defiant disorder).  She said it's pretty severe (and she didn't even get to see the violence).  I asked if it was possible that it's autism causing it. She said yes, and it is seen in some kids, but Tylers case is really bad and distinguished.  She thinks he needs help with it NOW and feels he is on the road to severely hurting people in a year or two and if he keeps going he will be sent away to a special school for kids with severe behavioral problems.  She said "but I can help" and she thinks she can get the behaviors reduced in 3-4 months.

Anyways.  The BCBA is coming over today with the lead therapist to work with Tyler and strategize (his weekday program).  They need to re-write his behavioral plan.  They warned me that the behaviors are going to get a LOT worse before they get better.  They have to "peak".  Ugh.
