The First Tooth

I am very happy to report that Tuesday ended Tys illness. Can you believe.....only THREE days of being sick????? And only one of those days was bad! I am so stoked!

Anyways, two weeks ago Tyler had told me that he had bit into a rice crispy treat at school and it hurt his tooth. He asked me why I gave him something that would hurt him (awwww). I go to investigate and what do you know....he has his first loose tooth and the new one is growing in behind the baby tooth. The new one had already fully poked through. How did that happen without me noticing?? I thought for sure it would come out by last Friday...but it didn't.

It was tempting to yank it out, but true to this mommys fashion, I looked it up online first hehehehe. No, you should NOT rip a baby tooth out. Baby teeth come out due to the root dissolving. If you tare it out before the tooth devolves, it can cause infection. Who woulda thought? Well of course infection is definitely something we avoid in this house!

So yesterday (Thursday) Ty and I had dentists appointments. We both got a clean bill of health. They were able to get x-rays on him which showed that not one tooth was (and already is) coming, but EIGHT were. I saw the xrays and yeah, the Dr. said the rest would be here REALLY soon!!! I'm not ready for this! He's not even 5 yet!

Anyways the dentist said that the baby tooth was "almost out" and to go home and give it "50 wiggles" . After dinner Tyler started the wiggles and asked me to do it. So I got to 50 and it was so close. I got to 50 again and it still wasn't coming. It was then that I told him he needs to go brush his teeth if he wants me to wiggle the tooth anymore because he had just eaten and it wasn't a very clean mouth for me to stick my fingers in.

So he goes upstairs, brushes and comes back down and as usual says "mommy how does it look?" (he loves showing me his clean teeth after). I look and his tooth was GONE!!!! He didn't even notice!!! We looked everywhere and determined that it probably went down the sink. I was so sad :(. When I knew this tooth was coming out, I feared it would happen at school or in his sleep and it would get lost or he'd swallow it and I'd miss his first baby tooth. And well, I missed it :(.

We both cried because it was gone but then I thought, he's really hurt about this and he shouldn't be. He should be excited. So I put myself together and got excited and told him how awesome this was and he was beaming with a smile. The tooth fairy came last night. Together we wrote her a note that while keeping his teeth super clean for her, it fell down the drain and we were sorry. She still came! And she left him $5!!!!!

And so, I present to you, a cell phone picture of my babies first toothless smile:
